Determining Necklace Length
Necklaces are very popular since they draw attention to emphasize the exquisiteness of the wearer. They are available in wide range of choices and materials too; there are gold necklaces, diamond pendants, pearl chokers, etc. It is up to you to decide which among would best fit your taste.
However, determining necklace length is a little bit tricky especially for someone who is not aware of the dos and don'ts of how to properly wear them. Below are no nonsense guiding principles that will help you obtain the perfect length and perfect fit!
Choosing a necklace length as determined by the shirt-type you are wearing:
- Turtleneck: For people who want to wear turtleneck tops, long necklaces can work extremely well. A beautiful 24" to 36" strand of pearls often look fantastic. Alternately, consider using a brooch or pin.
- No Cleavage Neckline: If you rather want to settle with the conservative type of jewelry then opt for choker length which is snug against the neck. If not, go for multi-strand choker length necklace which will give you the chance to have at least one inch of the neckline.
- Cleavage Exposing Neckline: For those who love to show off their glory then the necklace must enclose the neckline and the fabric. Be reminded however not to extend more than two inches. The necklace should not be too long since it will merely detract the attention from your outfit.
- Princess neck: For this kind, a person can wear medium width choker. One can also go for a slender necklace that fall half-way amid the neckline and the neck. Wearing the longer kind of necklace will not work with most tops of this style.
- Scoop neck, untucked: It is the best choice for longer necklaces.
- Scoop neck, tucked: Choker length necklaces is a good choice as long as it only touches the skin.
- Boat neck: For this case, you could wear the longest necklace that you can find in your jewelry box since it is rarely fitted then there is a huge space for longer necklaces. Keep your short necklace at bay. (In other words, if you decide to wear a short necklace it needs to be choker length, not touching the shirt collar.)
- Collared Blouse: If you want to use collared blouse, the necklace should be half-way in the middle of the neck and at the very first button of the shirt.
- V-neck, no collar: Take pride of wearing anything that best matches your outfit. No rules should be followed because v-neck and no collar tops are the perfect buddy of necklaces!
When buying necklaces, a competent shop would teach the buyer on what dress will best fit the necklace. Choosing your necklace carefully will allow you to enhance your ensemble. Wearing too short necklaces while at the same time wearing a collared-top can sometimes look like the person is being choked by the ornament. These guidelines help better highlight the dress and the jewelry that you are wearing. Still, choosing a necklace which will make you comfortable is the most important factor. It is your personal interest that should be considered most in determining necklace length.
