It is thought to be the 15th most popular gemstone.

Agate, birthstone of Taurus (April 20- May 20), is the most common form of chalcedony under silica mineral. It is composed of SiO2 elements. It is the result of the combination created when cavities in lava when make contact with alkali that has been solidified and crystallized. Its hardness is 5.5-6.5 on Moh's scale but is easily cracked or broken. Agate was found by and named after Achates River in southwestern Sicily. It varies in many shades like blue, lighter blue, dark green (tree agate), brown (petrified wood), white (petrified wood) and red (petrified wood).

The birthstone of Virgo came from the Greek word "iaspis" (spotted stone), a dense variety silica mineral is opaque and fine-grained. Jasper varies in colors but mostly brownish red to brick red and the remaining shades are multi colored. This determines the gold content of alloys if rubbed to it. Jasper, cut into thin pieces, is used in fashioning pictures or mosaic called commesso which is done centuries ago.
Jasper is inexpensive. I can often be found in affordable ornaments and jewelries when polished well. Though it can be cleaned with water, sometimes it polished will be removed this way. It is better to gentle wipe it with a soft, dry cloth for a regular cleaning procedure.
Jasper stone is widely distributed in Arizona, California, Utah, Wyoming, Sicily, North Africa, France, Germany and India.
