Purple is often thought to be the color of royality, and artists. They said that purple has some physical effects such as it: uplifts our mood, calms the mind and nerves, gives a sense of spirituality and encourages creative minds.

The two violet gemstones we all be featuring here are Amethyst and Sugiite.

Amethyst

"Amethystus" (not drunken or intoxicated) is the Greek term for Amethyst and is the birthstone of February. It is a variety of quartz with chemical symbol of SiO2. purple quartz has trigonal crystal system but not pleochroic. The color is even purple known as amethyst. Amethyst can occur as long prismatic crystals that have six sided pyramid at either end or can form as druses that are crystalline crusts that only show the pointed terminations.

The rich and powerful monarchs used to wear amethyst - including the British Crown Jewels and the favorite of Catherine the Great. The stone symbolizes piety and celibacy for clergy and therefore made up the rings of the Cardinals, Bishops and Priests of the Catholic Church in the middle ages. The gem also represents the tribe of Dan in the twelve chosen stones specified in the Bible. Great Egyptian rulers. Mummies are entombed with amethyst to represent their royalty.

Amethyst symbolizes modesty and humility. It is a gem to ward off the effects of alcohol when drunk, maybe because of its Greek term. It will be a great gift for the 4th and 6th year wedding anniversaries since it is the gem symbol.

It has abundant production but can.t be found everywhere. Every particular region produces a unique amethyst. The geographic place is responsible for the gems color, shape, inclusion, associations and character formation. Sugiite

With a chemical formula of KNa2 (Fe, Mn, Al) 2Li3Si12O30, sugilite is also known as luvulite and Royal Lazelle. It is named after the Japanese mineralogist, Dr. Ken-Ichi Sugi, who found it in Japan in the year 1944. Belonging to the hexagonal system, sugilite are rarely found but is massive in form. It is color pink to purple that has black, redish brown and yellow patches cyclosilicate mineral. It has a opaque and may have an almost waxy luster appearance.

Sugilite can be used in ornaments but is more popular in jewelries. It is one of the few purple stones available and ranges from a light purple to a deep almost black violet. Very high quality sugilite allows a bit of light through it reminding one of a purple gel. Additionally, the less black and the less white in the stone, the more valuable it is.
